Description
East Asia, Japan, Meiji Period, ca. 19th century CE. A sizeable and splendid pottery jar presenting an apple-form body, a sloped shoulder, and a narrow, folded rim, all sitting upon an equally narrow, concave base. Enveloped in a lustrous glaze of deep mocha, the elegant vessel is adorned with a petite, arched banner of Japanese script on a bare terracotta ground. Size: 11.75" in diameter x 13.25" H (29.8 cm x 33.7 cm)
