Description
Group of two Japanese Edo period ukiyo-e woodblock prints including one Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) woodblock print illustration from Volume 5 of the Hokusai Sketchbooks, ca. 1816, depicting a large bronze Buddhist temple bell protected by guardians; and one Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) monochrome print (sumizuri-e) print depicting a bullfinch and camellia with a hand written short poem in ink along the outside of the circle containing the image, signed Utagawa Hiroshige. Provenance: (Hiroshige) Private collection, Minnesota. (Hokusai) Estate of Robert Johnson, Asian Antique Appraiser & Collector, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Private collection, Minnesota.
