Description
This lot consists of an unframed ink and watercolor illustration on paper. Done in the fantastical style of famed illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel (American, 1904-1991). Image depicts the Cat in the Hat, an original Dr. Seuss character, playing the trombone. A handwritten inscription at lower right corner reads, "Dr. Seuss". Overall unframed dimensions approximately 8.25" x 11.5".
Reverse side of piece features a circular ink stamp.
Theodor Seuss Geisel (American, 1904-1991), commonly known as "Dr. Seuss", was an American children's author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, screenwriter, and filmmaker. Seuss distinguished himself early on with his professional work in advertising art. With the onset of WWII, Seuss turned his creative powers toward political cartooning, and lastly came to design for books and film. Some of his most iconic characters include the Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am, Thing One and Thing Two, and many, many more.
