Description
RARE - 14" x 12"; historic 1885 mirror advertising Pemberton's Elixir, French Wine of Coca was acquired by the museum roughly 40 years ago from a woman whose husband, as a young boy, was given the mirror by Dr. Pemberton, himself. The heavy gesso layer over the wooden frame simulates alligator grained leather, with straps and buckles in the 4 corners; a bit of chipping and loss of the gesso has occurred in random areas; and there's even some quite old tape repair upper left corner area which was incorporated 50 or more years ago to fill a small void; the beveled mirror in the center of the sign retains strong original acid etching; displays primarily some random foxing, small stains and loss of silvering around the outer areas to some extent; displays wonderfully; condition G to VG
