Description
US Naval cutlass manufactured by the Ames Manufacturing Company. Marked "N.P. Ames Cabotville Mass." for Nathan P. Ames Jr. (1803-1847), one of the founders of the company, on the blade near the guard. Marked "U.S.N. 1842" on the reverse of the blade. Stamped with "90" on the underside of the guard and impressed with an eagle on either side of the pommel. Featuring a distinct fish-scaled pattern on the grip.
