In 1776 Congress authorized Comitia Americana items to signify important people and battles of the Revolutionary War, these items are prized by collectors today. This personal inscribed item retains the hand written affixed dedication of "Comitia of Americana Louis XVI of France Our Firm Friend. R.I.P." It's likely R.I.P. was added later after the death of Louis the 16th in 1793, since those written letters are in a different hand then the dedication note.
