Description
For your consideration is a Chinese Xuande (1426-1435) period marked gilt bronze tripod censer. The censer's pierced lid is composed of intertwined branches, leaves and berries with a stump-like finial. The body of the censer is flanked on either side by long-tailed animal-form handles and sits atop (3) tapering feet. The underside of the 1 pound, 9 ounce censer carries a impressed 6-character Xuande period mark. The censer measures 5 1/2" in height when lidded and is 5 1/2" from handle to handle.
