Description
A M Cassandre (Adolphe Mouron 1901 - 1968) La Route Bleue, London-Paris-Cote d'Azur, P.L.M Railways, Wagon-Lits Co. Nord Railways, original poster printed by L Daniel Lille 1929 - 99 x 62 cmLa Route Bleue was a luxury bus service run by the P.L.M. Railways from London to the Côte d’Azur. While no bus may be in sight, we are somehow aware that Cassandre has placed the viewer inside the vehicle--the trees are not represented by the black geometric squares, but by the ghostly white outlines, leaving the vacant spaces between the shapes to imply the widows of the actual bus continuing down the road as far as the eye can see. It is the absolute opposite of cramped travel, the passenger meant to feel as comfortable as if he were sitting atop an open platform, gazing at the world as it flies by. It offers the viewer a chance at pure infinity. Credit Posters International
