Description
1867 Dante Alighieri Divine Comedy INFERNO Wadsworth Longfellow English RARE
“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”
― Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy
Dantes “Divine Comedy” is one of the most important and long-lasting works for literature. In the eleventh Canto, Dante recounts the life of St. Francis of Assisi – part of Dantes meeting great souls of philosophers and theologians. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, notable American poet, was responsible for translating the first American edition of Dante.
This English translation was so profound and important, that even subsequent foreign editions used Wadsworth Longfellows English. This was the case with this mid-19th-century Routledge edition which retained the Longfellow English.
