Description
The lot includes two antique late 19th or early 20th century Orthodox icons: a Greek icon depicting Holy Martyrs Saint Charalampos, an early Christian priest in Magnesia, signed in Ancient Greek: á¼Î³Î¹Î¿Ï‚ ΧαÏάλαμπος, tempera on wood panel, and a mosaic icon depicting Saint George the Victorious Slaying the Dragon. The present lot on auction form part of the Kuranda's family estate. The provenance of items can be tracked back to Felix Kuranda in XIX Century Austrian Empire, member of a well known family of bankers and politicians; directly related to the Karpeles, Wittelshofer, Milne And Lederer families. The most chronological recent lots are former belongings from USA veteran Major Thom Stellinger-Scott related through marriage with the Kuranda lineage. He was a veteran of Korean War as well as a reputed amateur photographer and artist. The Stellinger-Scott family resided for decades at Montauk Long Island NY.
