A Modernist acrylic on paper painting depicting a man and woman talking, 1941. Attributed to Dimitri Petrov, Russian, American, 1919 to 1986. Signed and dated upper right. Dimitri Petrov studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He became involved in designing, producing and writing short films. He was attracted to the Dada and Surrealist movements, exhibiting at the Iolas Gallery with the other Surrealists. He collaborated with artists such as Tanguy, Miro, Lam, Parker Tyler and Joseph Cornell. Petrov helped to sustain a surrealist paper with Duchamp and Max Ernst.
