Description
Antique Silver Medal from the 1870's. This one is not stamped, but we found one other example that was stamped State Board of Agriculture with monogram on the back and 1871 date. It looks like this one was never issued. This is a wonderful, rare medal in sterling silver. Good size at 50 mm. in diameter and 3.5 mm. thick. Weighs 40.8 grams. Designer/sculptor: R. KIESERLING - CHICAGO, as marked. Nice graphic scene on the obverse of an old farmer with his shield, farm tools, a horse, a cow, a goat, and even a pig. The back is blank with a weave design around the edge. The other example we found was awarded to the best butter churner at the Illinois State Fair, way back in 1871. This piece is over 150 years old and still in excellent condition with nice relief. Our Shipper processes shipments via Shipping Saint. They charge a $6 per lot flat handling fee (plus $3 per any additional lot) plus calculated retail USPS First Class or Priority Mail shipping label and shipping insurance cost.
