Description
A Chinese eight-panel wood and porcelain standing screen dating from the 19th century. Each panel has six porcelain plaques in blue and white and famille rose glazes. Each panel has a plaque depicting a courtly scene and a plaque featuring one of the Eight Immortals. The panels are all unattached from one another, and they each bear a sticker reading "Made in The People's Republic of China."
Dimensions are: each panel measures 32 1/2 inches tall X 6 3/4 inches wide, 82.6 cm X 17.1 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: One porcelain plaque has been repaired. There is glaze chipping throughout to the porcelain plaques. The panels themselves show general age wear, including some areas of repair.
Provenance: From Mr. Cheng in La Jolla, California. Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1980s.
