Hans J. Wegner "Papa Bear" Chair

mid-20th century, for A. P. Stolen, Copenhagen, model AP19, stained teak and vintage upholstery, the front seat rail stamped underneath "Made in Denmark/Designer:/Hans J. Wegner/A. P. Stolen Copenhagen" and "29".
h. 39", w. 26"

Provenance: Private collection, New Orleans, Louisiana

Literature: Christian Holmsted Olesen, Wegner: Just One Good Chair (Berlin: Hatje Cantz, 2014), pp. 208-209.

Condition

In overall good, as found, vintage condition. Frame sturdy with no structural issues. Finished "Paw" hand rests with very minor nicks/scuffs. Legs with typical scuffs/dings. Seat webbing present and attached. Vintage upholstery generally good on the tufted front of the back and on the back. Scattered stains to upholstery on the cushion, adjacent lower back, seat sides and underneath the arms. Cushion interior has begun to deteriorate.
