Description
Spanish school, 19th century.
"Saint Lucia".
Carving in alabaster.
Measurements: 39 cm. high.
Alabaster representation of Saint Lucia, as can be seen by the plate she holds in her right hand. Traditionally, the iconography has two eyes on this plate, in allusion to the punishment inflicted by the proconsul Pascacio for not renouncing his faith. In this sculpture, she is depicted wearing a long tunic. Stylistically, it is inspired by medieval carving.
