Description
World. Anonymous, World from the Best Authorities, 1800 (circa). Black & White. This double hemisphere world map features nice detail. Charleston, Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston are the only cities identified in the United States, which is here confined to the east coast. The land to the west of the Mississippi is labeled Louisiana, with New Mexico even farther west. California is named, as is New Albion. New Guinea's coastline is incomplete. The map is similar to the world map of the same title engraved by B. Baker for Brookes' The General Gazetteer in 1797.
LITERATURE: cf. McCorkle (18th C. Geography) #29-1.
