Fantastic Civil War Archive, Interesting Union and Confederate Contents
Archive consisting of (3) ALS, (4) clipped signatures, and (3) partial-printed documents relating to ten notable Civil War officials or forts, both Union and Confederate, ranging in date between ca. 1862-1879 and totaling 12 individual pieces in all. Varying degrees of tearing, edge toning, foxing, and minor ink smudging throughout. Overall, very good condition- an expansive collection! The lot includes:
1.) Francis P. Blair Sr. clipped signature, dated February 27, 1867, Silver Spring, MD. 1.5" x 4.75".
2.) Horatio King clipped signature, dated February 28, 1867, Washington, D.C. 2" x 4.75"
3.) Guard report from Harper's Ferry, partial-printed doc, 4pp front and back, dated January 30, 1863. Details the "report of a guard mounted at Camp Hill H Ferry, on the 30th of January 1863, and relieved on the 31st of January 1863". 10" x 14".
4.) Office Depot Quartermaster partial-printed DS on Fort Leavenworth letterhead, ca. 1879, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Receipt of service addressed to the Quartermaster of Las Vegas, N.M. Territory. 8" x 10".
5.) ALS addressed to Confederate General Daniel Ruggles, dated September 20, 1862, Tangipahoa, LA. Directly attached are two related letters forwarded to Ruggles by the sender regarding prisoners. 5" x 8".
6.) ALS w/ original Union postage, 4pp front and back, dated January 9, 1862, place illegible. 4.5" x 7".
7.) Christopher C. Augur clipped signature & CDV, n.p., undated. Signed "C.C. Augur/ Brig Genl U.S.A.". 4.5" x 3.5".
8.) Union General at Harper's Ferry Rufus Saxton DS, dated August 19, 1863, Beaufort, SC. Request for supplies including bacon, rice, tea, etc. countersigned by Lt. E.H. Browne. 8" x 12.25".
9.) Brig. Genl. John P. Hatch mounted photo & clipped signature, n.p., undated. 4.5" x 8.25".
10.) Union General and engineer Quincy Adams Gilmore ALS, dated December 23, 1867, New York. Addressed to a Mrs. Caroline Gillman "to ascertain if there is any memorial of my maternal Uncle Major John Lillie…". 5.25" x 8.25".
