Description
Two (2) Folk Art or Outsider Art pieces, including one (1) Shane Campbell House of Blues sculpture and one (1) Reverend Johnny Inexplicable Southern Phenomenon painting. 1st item: Shane "Slick" Campbell (American/Tennessee, 20th-21st Century) assembled folk art sculpture titled "House of Blues" depicting a red house with white painted siding and a pebble-covered base, the siding having inscriptions of lyrics, songs titles, and tributes to various American blues and rock-and-roll musicians including Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and others. Topped with a brick chimney and carved and painted electric guitar inscribed "Jimi H" on the neck, "SRV" on the body and a tribute to the famous rock-and-roll landmark the Whiskey a Go-Go en verso. Titled "House of Blues" on the doorway above a stepped entry inscribed "You must be 21 to enter." The opening reveals a painted interior of a figure playing the guitar and a pair of ceramic-painted devils inside. Signed "Shane Campbell East Tennessee June 2002" on interior of base. 18" H x 20" W x 22" D. 2nd item: Reverend Johnny Ace outsider art mixed media on board collage captioned "William Faulkner and Mark Twain, noted regional observers, encounter yet another inexplicable Southern phenomenon". The work depicts the two American authors in the upper right corner observing a collection of Southern mid-twentieth century rock-and-roll musicians, including Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and others, all rendered with photomechanically printed faces and painted costumes against a brightly colored pink and blue background resembling a dance floor. Signed "Reverend Johnny Ace" with a painted collage figure of himself in the lower left-hand corner. Nashville, TN, en verso. Float mounted to artist-painted purple board with a metallic interior frame. 16 1/2" H x 18 1/2" W x 1 1/4" D. Late 20th/early 21st century.

The Estate of James Lewis, Carthage, Tennessee; Campbell piece acquired Main Street Gallery 2002; Ace piece from The Arts Company 2003; copies of the original receipts will be available to the winning bidder.
Condition
1st item: Some areas where assembled pieces have been re-adhered. Some losses to chimney area on back side, largest area approximately 2". Light overall surface wear. 2nd item: Overall excellent condition.
