Description
Joseph Pennell (American 1857-1926) West Front, Westminster Abbey, 1903, Etching, signed in pencil lower right, matted and framed. Pennell was one of the foremost American printmakers of the early 20th century, and was close friends with James McNeill Whistler, whose influence is evident in many of Pennell's images as well as his sense of experimentation with etching technique. Pennell was especially known for his images of cityscapes and architecture.
Dimensions: 12 3/4" x 8 1/4" plate size, 22 1/4" x 16 1/4" as framed.
Condition: Trimmed to the plate edge. Light toned. Foxing and staining. Not examined out of frame.
