Description
Ayako Rokkaku (B.1982), Acrylic Painting
Signed (lower right)
Image Size: 35 by 35 1/8 in. 88 by 89 cm.
Ayako Rokkaku was born in 1982 in Chiba, Japan, outside the Tokyo metropolitan area. She began painting in 2002 and has gradually developed her own style. She has never received professional art training, but is completely self-taught. Rokkaku Aizuko's signature style is characterized by vividly colored backgrounds, dotted with flowers, rainbow-shaped brush strokes and candid female figures with expressions that together form a colorful dreamscape of happiness. The large eyes and long arms of her characters are in keeping with the style of Japanese manga, while the bright colors and compositions are reminiscent of children's drawings. This is no coincidence, as Rokkaku loves imaginative children's drawings that do not know the rules. Her unique technique of applying acrylic paint directly to the canvas with her hands and fingers, combined with her dynamic and lively compositions, makes her style easily recognizable. Rokkaku Ako's work is not limited to traditional materials; she also transforms used cardboard boxes and vintage Louis Vuitton trunks into colorful works of art. She is particularly fond of creating large paintings several meters tall. She painted live at the Geisai fair, giving visitors the opportunity to enter her world of painting and demonstrating the power and beauty of her "performance painting". Currently, Akaiko Hexagon lives and works alternately between Berlin, Porto, Tokyo and Amsterdam.
