Minton Majolica Turquoise-Ground Gothic Revival 'Indian' Garden Seat
Shape no. 588, date cypher for 1868
Of tapering hexagonal form, the lobed circular top with a central flower head, the side with quatrefoils and scrolling foliage, impressed uppercase mark and two cyphers, shape no., and green painted 111. Height 20 3/4 inches.

clever professional restoration; presents well; there is evidence of a circular hairline that appears to run the full periphery of the top of the seat along the outer border of the seat top; in addition, several radiating hairlines become visible under blacklight examination at the top of the seat; extensive overpaint to some areas, most notably to the upper part of the seat; including the seat top and underside immediately below the seat area; overpainted areas elsewhere on the body; exterior side appears to be nearly entirely oversprayed
