A carved wooden janus form shrine idol with two dan mask like faces and an undeniable golden honey colored patina from generations of handling. The heads are defined by slanted, slit-form eyes and finely striated coiffures. Kedie are important ceremonial figures used by village leaders to assist in the judgment of others' actions, and are kept in special shrines when not in use. The Idol measures 8.5 inches tall. Dan peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. Provenance: Ex Robert Banks collection, MD , USA.
