Description
Jackson, Jean Jones (American/New York/North Carolina, 1907-1984) Elks Home, oil on masonite, 1967, signed at lower right, signed and dated verso. Depicting men on their way to the Elk's lodge, women standing at the edges of the property looking on. Board 4.5 x 6.38 inches, in grain painted wood frame with gilt liner 7.38 x 9.25 inches. Jean Jones Jackson was an artist who incorporated fantasy into her folk-inspired paintings. Born in New York, she studied at the Academie Julien in Paris and the Art Students League in New York. In her later years, she settled in Hayesville, North Carolina. Jackson's work has been in prominent collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as Paul Mellon's private collection. She had exhibited at several galleries in New York from the 1940's on, and was represented by the renowned Betty Parsons Gallery.
Condition
Some craquelure to men's suits. Frame with some chips. Masonite board is hot-glued into the frame. Name spelled "Jackon" verso.
