A pair of Chinese famille rose dragon and phoenix bowls
Guangxu period, Qing dynasty
Each featuring 'dragon chasing a flaming pearl' motif and phoenix chasing a sun to exterior; both with six-character mark to underside. (2).
H: 2 3/8, Dia: 5 in.
H: 6.03, Dia: 12.7 cm. (each)
Provenance: Ms. Sherman, Colorado. The collection was inherited from her grandfather, John H. Reisner. Mr. Reisner went to Nanjing in 1914 and stayed until 1928. Mr. Reisner was an agriculture expert from Cornell University and went to Nanjing to help setup the agriculture department at Nanking University. These items were collected during the time Mr. Reisner was in China.
