Description
1908 L Frank Baums American Fairy Tales Faeries Wizard of Oz Childrens Fantasy
“Baums American Fairy Tales” is a compilation of enchanting tales by beloved childrens author, Lyman Frank Baum. Filled with whimsical illustrations the book explores the realms of fantasy through American prisms. The book originally comprised twelve original stories, including “The Box of Robbers,” “The Glass Dog,” “The Queen of Quok,” “The Girl Who Owned a Bear,” “The Enchanted Types,” and “The Magic Bon Bons,” to name a few. The stories, however, veer from Baums typical high-fantasy style. Instead, they are underscored with a satirical tone, including ironic and often humorous morals, giving a fresh twist to traditional childrens tales of the period. This made the stories equally enjoyable for adult readers.
This rare 1908 edition, the first published by the Bobbs-Merrill Company, featured a new cover, vibrant two-color illustrations by George Kerr , and an authors note from Baum. This edition also introduced three additional stories: “The Witchcraft of Mary-Marie,” “The Strange Adventures of an Egg,” and “The Ryl.” A truly unique and amusing collection of stories.
