Sievers Alta Manufacturing Co.

Provenance: Original 1926 decor piece from downtown San Antonio's historic Aztec Theater, deaccessioned by the Theater several years prior to the 2009 renovation. Recently from the collection of a noted Latin American arts expert, who formerly lived for years in Mexico before relocating to San Antonio, Texas.

Johannes Scholze was a renowned German woodworker, who emigrated to San Antonio in 1925. Shortly after, he carved the San Antonio City Crest, the basis of the official seal still used today. His other major works include the Menger Hotel lobby, the Officer's Club at Form Sam Houston, and a portrait frame at the Texas State Capitol.
