The panel is centered by a gold-embroidered applique bird form, with similar scrolling applique corners; with silk and ribbon work borders; 25in x 39in (frame 26 1/2in x 40 1/4in). Condition: Fading; dampstaining at one corner of border, and smaller scattered stains; embroidery/appliques in good condition. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
