Description
The Cutty Sark, A 19th Century Famous Sailing Ship Decorative Miniature Model. 37" x 6" x H 21", History: Cutty Sark is the world's only surviving extreme clipper. Most of the hull fabric you see today dates back to its original construction. Clipper ships are marked by three design characteristics - a long, narrow hull, a sharp bow which cuts through the waves rather riding atop - and three raking masts. What happened to Cutty Sark? In the 1890s Cutty Sark began to make less money, as more steam ships moved into the wool trade. Eventually the ship was sold to a Portuguese firm and renamed Ferreira. It was used as a general cargo ship, transporting goods between Portugal and its empire.
