Item Details
Description
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A nephrite jade stone carved into a pillar shaped mount with animal heads protruding from the top, and incised motifs. The heads are four rams / goats with curled horns facing forward in each cardinal direction, inspired by Shang dynasty vessels known as "zun." A narrow hole is drilled from top to base, and this piece may have been mounted as a handle finial. The incised motifs on the flat top, and bare underside suggest this was the correct orientation. Size: 1.6" L x 1" W x 2" H (4.1 cm x 2.5 cm x 5.1 cm)
