A stunning finely executed Royal Vienna Porcelain vase that features 100% hand painting and is a strikingly beautiful piece of porcelain. The base color of the vase is an intense color with a glossy finish on the glaze. The vase is further adorned with a portrait of a woman (Frahsim) and lavish decoration in hand-painted gold and gold enamel beads or “jewels” around the portrait area as well as on the reverse side of the vase. The portrait is well painted by the artist and features a beautiful young woman with brown hair wearing a diaphanous pink dress. Just below her hair on the right, near the gold border, is a hand-painted artist's signature that appears to me to read “F. “Frank.” A strikingly beautiful vase with an unusual shape and decoration in excellent original condition! Don't miss this opportunity to own it. The bottom of the vase is marked (all hand painted) with a blue glazed “beehive” mark and the word “Frahsim” (the subject of the portrait) in purple. Since the original royal factory in Vienna closed in 1864, dozens of companies produced their own versions of the style of decoration originally produced by this factory in what the following book describes as the period of “private enterprise after 1864.” My source for this information is the book Godden's Guide To European Porcelain by Geoffrey Godden in Chapter 5 titled "Vienna and Viennese Style Porcelains." Many people put great emphasis on the “artist's signature” or “mark” on the bottom of a porcelain piece like this. However, as experienced collectors of Royal Vienna style porcelain, we have come to realize over the years that the markings on the bottom of a piece (such as the "beehive" mark) and the artist's signature do not define the piece. . Instead, what really matters is the style and quality of the decoration and artistry of the portrait. Anyway, a strikingly beautiful piece in excellent original condition!
