Description
Originating from the Iron Age (1200-800 BC), this bronze bull amulet is a testament to the cultural significance of cattle in the ancient Near East. With dimensions of 4x3.8 cm (1.57x1.5 inches), the bull, a symbol of strength and fertility, is rendered in a stylized form that reflects the artistic conventions of the time. Its miniature size suggests it could have been used as personal adornment, possibly offering protection to the wearer. The piece was formerly in the possession of a Belgian collector, initials G.D., known for his eclectic collection of ancient art. It was acquired in the mid-1980s and remained in the family estate until it was obtained by a private collector from Zurich, initial M.F., in 2019.
