Dewitt Clinton & NYC Mayors Signed Checks Paying for the City Watch & Bonus NY Street Improvement Bond.
3 Signed Checks, each measuring 7" x 4.5", New York, NY, dated between 1810-1814, cut by the Treasurer of the City of New York paying for the City Watch. The first check is boldly signed by Mayor Dewitt Clinton as "Dewitt Clinton." The second check, is boldly signed by Mayor Jacob Radcliffe as "Jacob Radcliffe." Each check is endorsed on the verso. The third check was signed on behalf of Mayor Clinton. Cancellation punches, toning and some paper loss, else fine and boldly signed.
Also included in the lot is a "Street Improvement Fund Bond." The bond was produced on behalf of the City of New York, which is boldly signed by two time NYC Mayor Fernando Wood, and is secured by the "Pledge of all uncollected Assessments" and confirmed by the "Common Council for Regulating, Grading, Curb and Guttering, Flagging and Paving Streets and Avenues, Constructing sewers, fencing and filling vacant and sunken lots." In fine condition with some paper loss, expected folds but in tact seal and boldly signed. The bond measures 9" x 12.5".
