Three authentic abstract ink drawings on paper by Frida Kahlo, unframed: 1) Red and black ink of a face, nose and eyes, unsigned 2) Similar subject and colors to #1 initialed FK 3) Large eyeball in black ink with notation FRIDA-DIEGO-PIOCHITAS. All are 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Some soiling to paper. NOTE: Piochitas refers to Leon Trotsky, the Soviet politician who played a key role in the Russian Revolution in 1917. He was Frida's lover for about 2 years. The name translates to Little Goatee, her nickname for him. She was also a Communist and was able to get Trotsky exiled to Mexico by petitioning the Mexican government. PROVENANCE: Originally from a wealthy Mexican businessman who collected Kahlo and Tina Modotti art in the 1950's, sold to another collector several years ago, and many of these pieces he purchased are now on display in the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington DC. This along with the other Kahlo items were part of that original collection.
