Alfred Birdsey (1912 - 1996) Bermuda, Watercolor. Bermuda Coast Scene June 27, 1994. Signed in the lower right. Depicting a coastal landscape with houses in the foreground. Overall Size: 31 x 27 in. Sight Size: 22 1/2 x 18 1/2 in. #4770 . Birdsey was a Bermuda artist known for his bright watercolor scenes of his island home, specifically, the landscapes of Hamilton and St. George?s. He is an entirely self-taught artist that had assistance from two American artists, Donald Kirkpatrick, and Joe Jones. Sailboats, bays, and coastal homes are all subjects of his paintings, which are done in a Modern-Impressionist style. He was known for his simplistic method and would frequently hang his paintings on the clothesline outside his studio in Bermuda when they were completed. Birdsey created art to promote the America?s Cup when it sailed from Rhode Island to Bermuda. The Alfred Birdsey art exhibit was opened from November 14, 2022, to February 25, 2023, at the Butterfield Gallery at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda entitled, ?Birdsey: Stories and Sentiments.?
