Wilcox studied at Brigham Young University in Utah and won the Prix de West in 1987. Among other locations, he has painted the spectacular landscape near Jackson, Wyoming, for many years. Mt. Owen is the second-highest peak in the Tetons. It is named for William Owen, who organized the first documented ascent of the Grand Teton in 1898.
