Egypt, Late Dynastic to Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 664 BCE to 300 CE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wearable pair of earrings and a ring made from ancient glass and carnelian stones set on modern gilt-silver shank and ear hook findings. The ring is comprised of a modern U-shaped band with coiled filigree and capped by a straight pin that contains gold glass beads flanking a cobalt bead - perhaps a bird amulet. The earrings have cobalt and fused gold glass beads with the spherical carnelian at the tip. In antiquity the gold beads were fabricated by layering colorless glass over gold foil. Size of earrings: 1.5" L x 0.25" W (3.8 cm x 0.6 cm); ring band opening: 0.76" L (1.9 cm); cobalt bead: 0.8" L x 0.4" W (2 cm x 1 cm) US ring size: 9; silver quality: 90% to 92%; gold quality: 1%; total combined weight: 7.9 grams
