Description
A pair of identical antique Chinese, Qing Dynasty, Famille Verte covered and enamel porcelain vases. The vases are adorned with hand enameled polychrome images of birds in blossoming trees on green ground. The base are decorated with a geometrical motif. Circa: late 19th century. Marked with a red seal, on the bottom. Green family Famille Verte uses a range of transparent green enamels that dominate the other enamels, most often red, yellow, aubergine, underglaze cobalt blue, and enamel blue. These enamels were placed on a glaze after an initial firing of the piece at 1350 C. They were fired in a muffle at 750 to 800 C. The decoration of the Green Family really appears at the beginning of the Qing dynasty, 1644 to 1911.
