Three Early Maryland Books, "Friend of Man," John Gruber, Hagerstown, MD, 1807, written in German; "The Pious Country Parishioner," Matthias Bartgis, Frederick-Town, MD, 1808, written in English; and a first-edition book printed for William Warner, bookhandler, Baltimore, by Johann Herschberger, Chambersburg, 1815, written in German. All with various flaws, including damage to covers, ink inscriptions on interior pages, foxing and waterstaining to pages, etc. Chambersburg book with pages missing and more significant damage to edges of some pages.
