A LARGE 'LONGQUAN' CELADON-GLAZED TRIPOD CENSER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
明十六世紀 龍泉窰青釉刻錦紋索耳三足大爐
The globular body divided into three broad lobes all supported on three sturdy legs and surmounted by an upright neck, an everted rim set with two rope-twist handles, the lobed sides carved with a diaper pattern bordered by an incised rope-twist at the shoulder and keyfret around the neck, covered overall in an olive-green glaze, the black-lacquered wood cover carved in openwork with fruiting and flowering branches (2)
Width 11½ in., 29.2 cm
CONDITION:
The base with large firing tears, with associated hairline cracks (the longest extending to the shoulder). One if the handles off and re-stuck, with an associated hairline crack to the rim and neck.
