Description
Ancient Greek Canosan Terracotta Votive Vessel with Figure Ca. 4th century B.C. Size 15 1/2 inches high, 5 1/8 inches diameter. Large terracotta votive vessel having a tapered bulbous body with a human figure standing on top, in front of the tall loop type strap handle. The figure wears a layered, floor length drapery garment, with right hand holding a side lappet, left hand holds a goblet. The figure flanked by two tall leaf elements. Body of the vessel is decorated with a wide upper band of interlocking diamond elements. Overall white slip surface with some pink and blue-green highlights. Scattered areas of mineral deposits on the surface. A nice example. Provenance: NYC collection, ex. Fortuna Fine Arts, NYC.

Repaired from approximately twelve original pieces with restoration over the break lines
