Description
Several of lots 504 through 527 are part of a group of Russian items consigned by a prominent Cincinnati family. All may have been purchased from the Armand Hammer Sale of Imperial Russian items held at Marshall Field & Company in Chicago in July of 1933. Many have documentation from the Hammer Collection. Others do not but the all reportedly came from the Hammer Sale.
Small Russian Icon from the quarters of Czar Nicholai II, Alexander Palace, Tsarskoye Selo, Russia. The image is of St. Nicholas the Wonder Worker, patron saint for the last Czar of Russia, seed pearls surrounding. The filigree frame having fixed clear faceted stones, dangles of semi precious stones with an Orthodox cross and suspended with a small plaque enameled with a white Dove of Peace. The frame is impressed with the spade Kokoshnik, 84 and Delta symbol. Cyrillic assayers mark for Olovyashnikov Sons, also impressed on the hanger ring. Right facing Kokoshnik. There is a tiny unreadable impression. Accompanied by a “Russian Imperial Exhibit” tag with hand written description and a typed Russian Imperial Exhibit certificate from the Hammer Collection at Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, Illinois, dated July 15, 1933.
