The Rothschild name seems to transcend the product for which it is most known - grape juice. It is now a name synonymous with luxury, status and history. On top of that, Lafite-Rothschild has become so famous and sought after that it is has become one of those brands that goes by one word--“Lafite”. It is unequivocally among Bordeaux’s greatest wines, marrying finesse beautifully with power, delivering one of the finest possible drinking experiences. It was rated in the original Bordeaux classification of 1855 as one of only four “First Growths” in the entire Médoc solidifying itself as one of the world’s best wines from a very early period. Several vintages from the 19th century were tasted as recently as 20 years ago in world-renown tastings and they showed beautifully. There is no expense spared for this wine with draconian measures conducted to ensure the highest quality including but not limited to cutting up to 60% of the fruit each harvest that don’t meet the standards required for the First Growth. For the ultimate Cabernet Sauvignon drinking experience, there is no finer wine made in the world. 1959 The 1959 Lafite Rothschild is one of this château's finest vintages of the postwar period and has consistently been rated 100 points by various critics from The Wine Advocate including Robert Parker himself. It was most recently tasted in December 2023 by William Kelley who said it was “exhibiting terrific mid-palate plentitude while remaining quintessentially suave and elegant,” and still had another 15 years of life in it! This is not only one of the most legendary bottlings of Lafite ever made, but one of the most desirable drinking experiences you can have when it comes to wine. 1964 While not one of the chateaux top vintages, it should still be exciting to own a 60 year old Lafite!
