A beautiful and superbly made French silver and black enamel rectangular-shaped, small box by the Paris firm of Lombard & Bernier (1878-1884). Box interior with original lustrous gilting. Fully marked with the Lombard & Bernier maker's mark and post 1838 Paris silver assay mark. Made from heavy gauge silver, weight: dimensions: 3 3/4 in. length x 1 1/2 in. width X 1 1/4 in. height, with tight nearly invisible hinge. Niello is a type of enameling where a black mixture of copper, silver and lead sulphides is used as an inlay on engraved metal (usually silver).

Very good original condition, small enamel losses to one bottom corner and one side edge
