Description
A magnificent swept hilt rapier in the style of Othmar Wetter. Germany, arly 20th Century. Long, straight, double-edged blade of hexagonal section, with deep groove pierced with geometrical motifs at the first part, ricasso with stamp '3' under a lily on both sides. Magnificent hilt, carved and gilt with side rings, lower ring, quillon blocks, quillons, loop guards decorated as oval segments kept together by a toothed band and decorated with small plaques carved with figures and knights on horseback among floral motifs. Smooth back quillons. Wooden grip covered with wire binding and moor's heads. Very fine work in the style of 1580-1600, probably manufactured during the historicism by Anton Konrad, one of the greatest masters of that time.
