Description
Featured in this lot is an 1892 edition of "Life of General Sherman" by James P. Boyd. This book is by the same author of "Military and Civil Life of U.S. Grant" and "Life of Sheridan". A stirring biography of the larger than life general and statesman. William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891) was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, achieving recognition for his command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the scorched-earth policies that he implemented against the Confederate States. He steadfastly refused to be drawn into party politics and in 1875 published his memoirs which became one of the best-known first-hand accounts of the Civil War. This red cloth stamped illustrated hardcover is in fair condition, scuffing to edges, gilt fading. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. Measures 7.75"L x 5.5"W x 1.5"D.*
