Description
Large 18th-century or early 19th-century Plains Indian knife and sheath. The sheath is sinew sewed with the beaded front on the back of buffalo hide. Decorated with blue, dark red, yellow, green, and white seed beads. Most likely Lakota Sioux. Tin cones are used on the sheath and dangling from leather strips. The knife is 15 inches in length and the blade is hand-forged and made by Joseph Elliot Son Sheffield. The sheath is in excellent condition with no loss of beads. The knife has rust spots on the blade. The beaded sheath measures 12.5 in. long by 3 1/4 in. wide.
