Description
American. 1930s. Tinplate. This toy was produced as a nod to the largest zeppelin of the time, the Graf Zeppelin from Germany. It came into production before the airship became a propaganda tool used by the Nazi Party. The Zeppelin was withdrawn from service after the Hindenburg disaster in 1937. Labelled, "Graf Zeppelin", on both sides of forward ballonet (behind nose cone). Labelled, "Steelcraft", on underside of nose cone. 6.5" x 25" x 6.5". From the Late John D. Anderson Collection.
Condition
In overall good condition with original paint and original labels intact. Shows oxidation and some areas of surface loss.
