A rare printing of the proceedings occurring at the Maryland Conventions of 1774, 1775, and 1776. Much of this book is discussion reports and letters – containing votes and resolved issues many involving Great Britain and King George III. It also features approval for the foundation of Maryland counties and towns, the approval of city deputies and governmental offices, and much more. Worth noting, the convention did have a meeting on July 4, 1776 which is covered in this work!

James M. Coale (1805-1882) was a prominent lawyer, soldier, and politician from Frederick, MD. Before serving as the Brigadier General for the 9th Brigade Maryland Militia (a position he resigned in 1860), he was the president of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, a position he held until the canal was completed under his guidance in 1850. He also put his legal knowledge to use when he wrote to President Lincoln to request the release of several Maryland legislators who were being held as political prisoners during the Civil War. He was well respected in his community, being selected for the Maryland House of Delegates from 1852-1862.
