Description
Native American, Western United States, Upper Midwest / Northern Plains Tribes, Dakota (Sioux), ca. 19th century or earlier CE. A collection of 3 tobacco smoking pipes and bowls: a red catlinite elbow style bowl from the Plains region, an Eastern Woodlands region blackware stem and bowl decorated with a fox head, and a soapstone / steatite bowl, likely from the Midwestern / Eastern United States. The stone bowls have aromatic remains of soot from use. Size of catlinite pipe: 3.5" L x 1" W x 3" H (8.9 cm x 2.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Condition
Soapstone pipe bowl is a fragment of a larger piece, break lines and abrasions are smooth from age. Blackware pipe is intact with no discernable repairs. Catlinite pipe bowl has some nick and abrasions, otherwise intact. Soot from use is present on the stone bowls, and the pottery pipe has light earthen deposits.
