Description
North America, Southwestern, Arizona or New Mexico, Navajo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A collection of wooden weaver's tools for making textiles such as the famous Navajo rugs and blankets. The tools are simple with signs of age and use, and all are contained in a modern cotton bag. Included are 3 weaving combs, a spindle, many battens - the flat & paddle shaped sanded wood pieces. Battens come in many widths and shapes for starting and finishing rugs, belts / sashes. There is a large assortment of simple sticks that could be used for many things; shuttles and heddle rods, or forming the loom frame itself, such as tension bars. Navajo weavers often passed down their tools through the generations, and today many weavers still use simple wood tools just like these. Size of spindle: 23.75" L x 4" W (60.3 cm x 10.2 cm)
